The Beach

Beach: to run or haul up a boat on to a beach.

“I’ve got to go back.”

“No,” she screamed, “you can’t!”

He looked at the floor, at the blood already on his hands. “What choice do I have?”

“You can stay here, with me,” desperate.

“How can I? They’re dying.”

“You’ll die.”

“But maybe I won’t.”

“You will.”

“Might not,” glancing back.

“But what if you don’t come back?”

“What if I do?”

“You won’t,” screaming again.

“But I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t try.”

She looked at him, knowing there was no further argument. “I love you.”
